Arpege Diamonds recently compiled a comprehensive database of colored diamonds that have been sold in the last 25 years. We looked at auction results from Sotheby’s, Christie’s, and other big sales from around the globe to compile this list of almost 50 notable sales. The beauty of these diamonds is exceeded only by their stunning price tags. Let’s take a look at the top ten colored diamond sales from the last 25 years.

The Wittelsbach-Graff diamond was sold in 2008.  The diamond was classified as fancy deep blue in color and is an oval shaped stone. The Wittelsbach-Graff weighed in at 35.56 carats and sold for just over $683,000 per carat. The final sale price of the Wittelsbach-Graff was $24.3 million.

The Cullinan Dream Diamond was sold in 2016. The diamond was classified as fancy intense blue in color and is a classic baguette-cut stone. The Cullinan Dream weighs in at 24.18 carats and sold for $1.04 million per carat. The final sale price for the Cullinan Dream was $25.3 million.

The Sweet Josephine was sold in 2015. The diamond was classified as fancy vivid pink in color and is a cushion shaped stone. The Sweet Josephine diamond weighs in at 16.08 carat and sold for $1.77 million per carat. The final sale price of The Sweet Josephine diamond was $28.5 million.

The Unique Pink was sold in 2016. The diamond was classified as fancy vivid pink in color and is a pear shaped diamond. The Unique Pink weighs in at 15.38 carat and sold for just over $2 million per carat. The final sale price of The Unique Pink was $31.6 million.

The De Beers Millennium Jewel sold in 2016. The diamond was classified as fancy vivid blue in color and is an oval shaped stone. The De Beers Millennium Jewel 4 weighs in at 10.1 carat and sold for $3.14 million per carat. The final sale price for the De Beers Millennium Jewel 4 was $31.8 million.

Christie’s sold an unnamed orange diamond in Geneva in 2013. The diamond was classified as fancy vivid orange in color and is a pear shaped stone. The unnamed stone weighs in at 14.82 carat and sold for $2.39 million per carat. The final sale price of the unnamed diamond was $35.54 million. It is the sole orange diamond to occupy this top ten list.

The Princie Diamond sold in 2013. The diamond was classified as fancy intense pink in color and is a cushion shaped stone. The Princie Diamond weighs in at 34.65 carats and sold for $1.13 million per carat. The final sale price for this monster pink diamond was $39.3 million.

The Graff Pink diamond was sold in 2010. The diamond was classified as fancy intense pink in color and is an emerald shaped stone. The Graff Pink weighs in at 24.78 carats and sold for $1.85 million per carat. The final sale price of The Graff Pink was $46 million.

The Blue Moon was sold in 2015 to an Asian Billionaire. The diamond was classified as fancy vivid blue in color and is a cushion shaped stone. The Blue Moon weighs in at 12.03 carats and sold for a jaw-dropping $4.03 million per carat, the highest per carat sale price of any in this list. The final sale price for The Blue Moon was $48.5 million.

The Oppenheimer Blue diamond was sold in 2016. The diamond was classified as fancy vivid blue in color and is a rectangular shape. The Oppenheimer Blue weighs in at 14.62 carats and sold for an astonishing $3.9 million per carat. The final sale price for The Oppenheimer Blue was $57.54 million.

The Pink Star was sold in 2013. The diamond was classified as fancy vivid pink and is a mixed oval brilliant cut stone. The Pink Star weighs in at a mammoth 59.6 carats and sold for just over $771,000 per carat. The final sale price of The Pink Star tops our list at $83.18 million.

Colored diamond auctions are often invitation-only events where many of the buyers protect both their bids and their anonymity.
