Of course, not all cigars are made equal, and if you are a long-time smoker looking for something different, or a new smoker looking for your first cigar, then this post is right for you.
More specifically, this post will be covering the wrappers, flavors, and other things to look for in your cigar.
In no particular order, here are the 7 best cigars to try in 2021:
- Cohiba Robusto Cuban Cigars
- Drew Estate Puros Huérfanos Churchill Cigar
- Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure Selección No. 2
- Macanudo Gold LE 2021 Pyramid
- Romeo y Julieta Reserva Real Nicaragua Robusto
- Montecristo No.2 Torpedo
- Rocky Patel LB1 Toro
Cohiba Robusto Cuban Cigars
Originating from the Dominican Republic, the Cohiba Robusto Cuban cigars are 100% hand-made using carefully-selected Cuban seed tobacco and are wrapped using an authentic Indonesian Jember binder.
Their superb construction allows them to burn evenly, and when smoked one can experience a plethora of aromas. The wrapper gives off an earthy, cedar aroma, while white pepper, toasted almond, cocoa, and pine are also present. The foot of this cigar also has subtle spice and pine notes that only add to the enjoyment of one of the best cigars you can find.
The only downside to the Cohiba Robusto Cuban Cigar is its rarity. These cigars are hard to come by and thus will yield some pretty steep prices. Regardless, these are without a doubt one of the best cigars out there, and are worth giving a try.
Drew Estate Puros Huérfanos Churchill Cigar
The Drew Estate Puros Huérfanos Churchill Cigars are actually a “rebirth” of a previously released cigar from the same brand, the “Willy Herrera”. These cigars are excellently wrapped using an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper. This is precisely what gives them their characteristic “brown leather” look. Its pre-lit flavor might be a little “much” for some, especially beginners. Once lit however, you will be able to experience an array of earthy, peppery, malty, earthy, salty, and somewhat sweet flavors.
The one and only drawback of this cigar is its draw has a slight resistance, but once it gets going you will be in for a very special smoking experience.
Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure Selección No. 2
While cigar manufacturer Hoyo de Monterrey is well-known today, the Epicure Selección is a fairly-new line of cigars, and yet they have easily made the list for best cigars you need to try. They excellently combine a blend of Honduran tobacco with a proprietary Cuban seed wrapper. Speaking of wrappers, the Epicure Selección is wrapped using exclusive, traditional techniques, only adding to its quality and even burn-line. Upon the initial draw, it will leave you with an earthy aftertaste, but as it burns you will start to experience a more complex array of flavors. These include cedar, coffee, white pepper, and roasted nuts. Despite being a fairly high quality cigar, its pricing is rather affordable. The only downside of this cigar is that its sharpness during the first half might be a little “much” for a few smokers.
Macanudo Gold LE 2021 Pyramid
The Macanudo Gold Pyramid is a limited-edition premium cigar that is crafted using the fairest Connecticut shade-grown wrapper. More specifically, they are made using only the first two priming leaves. This is precisely what gives them their signature lighter, sweeter, and mellower taste.
While smoking, you will be met by a plethora of flavors including, light cedar, vanilla, toasted bread, citrus, and bay leaves. The only negative of the cigar is that the bitter overtones might sometimes overpower the mellow sweetness, but still this is not enough to detract from your enjoyment.
Romeo y Julieta Reserva Real Nicaragua Robusto
The product of the collaboration between two master blenders AJ Fernandez and Rafael Nodal is perhaps one of the best cigars you will find. It is beautifully crafted, boasting a medium-brown wrapper with a solid feel, light veins, and a subtle sheen. When smoking, you will experience complex profile of flavors, including cinnamon spice, floral and cedar notes, fruit, butter, light cocoa powder, wood, and maple syrup. Despite having medium strength, some might find the start a bit harsh, which is the only downside we can think of for this truly marvelous cigar.
Montecristo No.2 Torpedo
A list of the best cigars would fall short without including this classic Montecristo No.2 Torpedo. This is one of the best selling cigars world-wide, and has been a top choice among enthusiasts, social smokers, hobbyists, and of course cigar aficionados. Hand-rolled and crafted with the best aged Dominican tobaccos, these cigars have a beautifully diverse flavor profile when smoked. You will notice cinnamon, leather, and nutmeg with each draw. Speaking of, the draw is consistent and without resistance, and the burn is even throughout. The only downside (if we had to choose), is that they can become a bit pricey. This however is expected from a cigar of this quality.
Rocky Patel LB1 Toro
The LB1 is an elegant looking, medium-bodied cigar, made using an Ecuadorian Habano wrapper to encase a perfect blend of Nicaraguan and Honduran tobacco. When the cigar is lit, it starts off with a peppery overtone which soon settles into a smoother blend of cedar, coffee, lemon, sweet tobacco, only to have a more spicy finish. While the cigar is usually preferred by intermediate and expert cigar smokers, it shouldn’t deter beginners to try, especially if you are looking for a more rich, spicy, and rather complex cigar to try out.
Whether you’re brand new to smoking cigars or are an experienced old-school smoker, the options above provide for an excellent all-around smoking experience. Have you tried any of these cigars? Are there any cigars you think belong on our list? Let us know in the comments below.
