  • We all know how bad the weather can get, no matter where in the world we live; the same principles apply to diamond mining. Rio Tinto’s rough-diamond output saw a 2% decline in the second quarter of 2017 due to weather restrictions. Read more here…

  • Speaking of diamond production, De Beers is a powerhouse when it comes to diamond mining. Good news for them, the organization saw a spike in rough diamond products and sales during the second quarter of this year. Read more here… 
  • It’s always exciting when a new diamond is discovered. Enthusiasts and investors are eager to learn the color, size, and weight of the rough stone. One of the most recent discoveries came from Alrosa, unearthing two gem quality diamonds weighing 110 carats and 75 carats respectively. Read more here… 
  • In related news, Merlin Diamonds uncovered two pink diamonds from its mine in the Northern Territory in Australia. Although the diamonds were small, (.039 and .025 carats respectively), the discovery led to speculation that more pink diamonds are yet to be unearthed. Read more here…
  • Rio Tinto recently sold a set of diamond coins to an undisclosed buyer for $1.4 million within a month of unveiling the product. The neat thing about this set is that each coin came with a colored diamond; one pink, one purplish-pink, and one violet, originating from the Argyle mine. Read more here…
  • We knew production is declining from the Argyle mine due to its limited supply, but did you know this other mine in Canada is suddenly booming? Production from the Diavik mine in the Canada’s Northwest Territories jumped 18% from a year earlier. Read more here…

  • Rio Tinto recently announced it will opt-in to the new Canada Diamond Project. This partnership will look to develop a diamond mine in Saskatchewan, Canada. The project will potentially allow Rio Tinto up to 60% of the proceeds. Read more here…
